The New York Post does a lot of crazy things, but this may be the craziest of the lot. In covering the John Edwards trial, the New York Post released the most New York Post list ever, the Top 10 Most Hated People In America. As you can see by the Twitpic of Darren Rovell, three sports figures make the list. OJ Simpson (accused but found not guilty of double murder, currently in prison for an armed robbery), Jerry Sandusky (awaiting trial on a multitude of child sex abuse charges), and Tiger Woods (cheated on his wife and wrecked into a fire hydrant).
Wait a minute? Tiger Woods?
Woods may still have his detractors and his "haters" but lumping him on a list with the likes of Bernie Madoff, Casey Anthony, and Jerry Sandusky seems a little far fetched, doesn't it? Haven't we mostly forgiven and/or forgotten about Tiger's discretions? The crowds at Muifield Village for Tiger's victory over the weekend at The Memorial seemed to certainly be in his corner. And, America loves nothing more than a comeback and redemption story, and Tiger is definitely in that "reviving his career when nobody believed in him" mode.
The art of trying to rank the virulent nature of different crimes amongst annoying celebrities is a pretty fruitless and troubling societal endeavor anyways. For that matter, when was the last time Paris Hilton or Mel Gibson did absolutely anything noteworthy? They are so 2006.
In the grand scheme of things, it's all preparation for this fall when both Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez make the list after repeatedly sailing open receivers and bouncing balls into the turf for the Jets.
