Mikkel Boedker of the Phoenix Coyotes delivers a memorable weather report

Written by David Rogers on .

When an athlete gives a weather report on a local news station, it's usually a recipe for comedy gold. Phoenix Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker's report for ABC 15 of Phoenix is just one of the most recent and most comical examples which proves that athletes stumbling through the weather is a sight worth beholding.

Give Boedker credit. He actually handles himself pretty well while providing some truly hilarious lines. From telling viewers they don't need to worry about the cold temperatures at the Grand Canyon as they only need about five minutes to see it, to struggling to locate Phoenix on a map, Boedker's segment is loaded with unintentional comedy.

Boedker is quite blunt in his forecast, admitting that he's never been to several areas on the map. He also mentions that the Coyotes are in town Monday and Tuesday, but that he doesn't care about the weather the rest of the week because the team will be on the road. All of this combined with his understanding of the English language as a Danish hockey player left us laughing several times.

"It's on like Gronkey Kong" - Rob Gronkowski, SportsCenter anchor

Written by Matt Yoder on .

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski had the pleasure of doing the ol' Bristol Car Wash today as part of SportsNation's Madden cover vote.  As an added perk, he got to sit behind the anchor desk with Chris McKendry for the live open to the 11 AM ET episode of SportsCenter.  The result was like watching a botched "This is SportsCenter" commercial as Gronk introduces himself twice and teases Robert Griffin's third recovery...

Tim McCarver retiring at end of 2013 MLB season

Written by Matt Yoder on .

One of the faces of our Mount Rushmore is planning his exit from the broadcast booth.  Fox's Tim McCarver announced he will retire at the end of the 2013 MLB season.  He's called every World Series on Fox since the network won World Series rights in 1996 and will have worked a total of 23 in his announcing career when he steps away later this year.  The former Cardinals catcher has the unique distinction of calling games for all four major networks over the course of his career in the booth.

Matt Lauer feels duped by NBC for Jerry Sandusky interview

Written by Reva Friedel on .

Matt Lauer is anything but happy with NBC right now. The embattled today host is reportedly irate that he had to interview controversial filmmaker John Ziegler and anchor coverage of the Jerry Sandusky interview Monday morning.  Lauer, who's seen his public approval plummet since Ann Curry's messy departure from the Today Show, apparently feels he was set up to be in the middle of a negative PR storm for giving Sandusky more publicity.

As expected, Today airing the interview turned into quite the PR disaster.

Ziegler is the man who actually did the interview with Jerry Sandusky as part of a documentary he made called The Framing of Joe Paterno.

Robin Roberts to be awarded Arthur Ashe Courage Award

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Sports fans will remember Robin Roberts as a SportsCenter anchor throughout the 1990's and into the early 2000's and one of the bedrocks of ESPN's flagship program.  Along with Bob Ley and Charley Steiner, Roberts was one of the most respected anchors at ESPN.  Her work at ESPN drew her to ABC News and Good Morning America, where she took over as a full-time anchor in 2005.

Over the last decade, Roberts has made a name for herself in the news world and she's drawn even more support in the last several years as she's heroically battled first breast cancer and then MDS.  Roberts returned to GMA last month after a 4 month leave of absence for a bone marrow transplant and has been a transcendent, inspiring figure to anyone who's witnessed her battle.

For those reasons, Robin Roberts will be honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year's ESPYs.  Roberts spoke about the honor on SportsCenter yesterday...

After the news was reported last week, ESPN made the announcement official on Monday.  Rick Reilly will be sticking around Bristol for the foreseeable future.  And he'll basically be fulfilling the same role he's had for the last few years skipping around ESPN's various online and television properties.  The central roles will be his weekly column and his television essays, which according to ESPN "ran the gamut from poignant to humorous."  I kid you not.  Details from ESPN's glowing release...

Bomani Jones is now an honorary Le Batard

Written by Matt Yoder on .

Bomani Jones was on ESPN's Dan Le Batard Is Highly Questionable yesterday (geez that's a pain to type in its entirety) to expand on his afternoon talk show repetoire.  After talking about the Miami Heat, Gonzalo Le Batard slips and jokingly (?) tells Bomani to "go to hell!"  Once again, it's Bomani's facial expressions that take this clip to another level.  Weirdly enough, the dynamic between these three actually works, at least compared to most of ESPN's other daytime programming.  I wouldn't mind seeing Gonzalo v Bomani become the next Skip vs Stephen A, or at the very least John Clayton vs Sean Salisbury...
