Ryan Nece was the Sideline Analyst for the Pac 12 Network's coverage of the Civil War Game between the Oregon Ducks at Oregon State Beavers this afternoon, has he been a Sideline reporter or sideline analyst for most of the Pac 12 Network games that he has worked this year???
@CUbsfan Did I somehow leave him off? Nece has been the sideline reporter for every game that Glenn Parker has been an analysis for this year. 1 week they swapped Robinson and Calabro on the main and 2nd play-by-play teams for some unknown reason.
The Pac-12 Network originally announced 3 teams: Robinson, Parker, and Nece; Kevin Calabro, Adam Archuleta, and Yogi Roth; and Dave Flemming, Coy Wire, and Brooke Olzendam.
They used a combination of Dwayne Ballen, Ron Pitts, Rich Cellini, and Matt Smith as play-by-play for weeks when they had 4 or more games. Analysts were Kelly Stouffer, Gary Plummer, and Jeremy Bloom. Erin Coscarelli was the only other individual used by Pac-12 for sideline reporting this year.
Kelly Stouffer was the wandering analyst this year. With the exception of the 1 week where he had a game PPD (Oregon St/ Northwestern St on Pac-12 Network, which will be made up this next week and quite possibly use a different announce team than the original one), he had an assignment every week. He worked 2 games with BTN, 2 games with Pac-12 Networks, and 7 games on ESPN Networks.
Daniel no you did not leave him off, i just said that it look's like that the Pac-12 Network used Ryan Nece as a Sideline Analyst over Sideline Reporter though and don't you mean the game that was PPD was Oregon State/Nicholls State and not Oregon State/Northwestern State???
Okay cool! I was just trying to help you out there and i know what the diferences between a Sideline Analyst and Sideline Reporter are too and ESPN has used Tom Luginbill as a Sideline Analyst for a few games this year too and don't forget that the 1st network to come up with the idea of a Sideline Analyst was ABC, because they used to have Lynn Swann as the Sideline Analyst for their #2 College Football Announcing team for a few years too!!!
@CUbsfan Yes, I meant Oregon St/ Nicholls St. It has been sideline analyst all year. A sideline analyst has to do the interviews a sideline reporter does, but a sideline analyst also provides insights on the plays and views from the field, such as why a penalty is a penalty if the booth doesn't think one is. Basically the sideline analyst role was created by FOX Sports for Tony Siragusa, and groups like Pac-12 Network and NBC Sports Network have adapted it for their needs on games. .

I don't necessarily care about views, but last weekend when AA Tweeted that it was there, I had over 300 visitors compared to the usual 50 or so, up from the 20's I was getting just by posting solely Radio Broadcast information. Getting those same 50 or so views for weekday games does show me that people do care about knowing whom the weekday game broadcasters are. I'm glad to provide that service and will continue to do so all season.
Tomorrow will be the1st College Football game that Steve Levy has worked the PBP for right???
@CUbsfan Not necessarily. If this is the same Steve Levy that has done NEC Network games on Fox College Sports this year, then he was the analyst for 5 NEC Network games but typically did play-by-play for at least half a quarter each game instead of Paul Dottino doing the entire game.
This means that Todd Harris will be the PBP man and Anthony Herron will change from being the Sideline Reporter, to being the Analyst for 2 MountainWest College Football games on the NBC Sports Network this year!
@CUbsfan 3 Games Overall since Herron did the Atlanta Football Classic analysis, though it was with Wolfe. This is the 2nd straight year NBC will use Burmeister as the play-by-play man with Johnson as the sideline reporter for Grambling vs. Southern. Woodson replaces King and Herron as analysts this year.

@CUbsfan Yes. Technically he was a sideline analyst for every game, not just a sideline reporter. Hopefully my above comment explains the difference. It should be noted though that Game Notes don't classify them as a difference. They just list (play-by-play), (analyst), (sideline). The sideline analyst role is still very new, and most games use just a sideline reporter instead of a sideline analyst. The only sideline analyst I think ESPN used was with Big East Network- Paul Carcaterra. The others were all sideline reporters. What made Carcaterra an analyst was him analyzing the stories and equipment in advance interviews and sharing those as the game went on instead of just reporting on injuries.
Daniel i was just wondering because when VERSUS released it's colege Football announcing teams last year it had Anthony Herron as a Sideline Analyst and not Sideline Reporter for their coverage of MWC games and it also had Akbar Gbaja-Biamila as a Sideline Analyst and not Sideline reporter for it's coverage of Pac-12 games last year too!!!
So what i was asking was did they ever use Anthony Herron as a Sideline Analyst???
@CUbsfan Anthony Herron was the sideline reporter for the MWC games last year as well. He did analysis once- during the Grambling/ Southern game, when they brought in Lewis Johnson to do the sideline reporting. Versus had 3 broadcast teams. Randy Moss, Ross Tucker, and Carolyn Manno did the Ivy League games. Paul Burmeister, Shaun King, and Anthony Herron did the MWC games. Ted Robinson, Glenn Parker, and Akbar Gbaja-Biamala did the Pac-12 games.
This means that Adam Zucker will be the studio host for his 3 and final time on the SEC on CBS on Friday November 23rd this year!!!
Mark Neely and Ray Benley were also the broadcasers for ESPN2's coverage of the Toledo Rockets at Akron Zips game on Tuesday night too!!!
@CUbsfan Yet you didn't mention Thursday's announcers. Joe Davis and Jay Walker called the Tuskegee/ Alabama State game on ESPNU Thursday while Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack, and Samantha Steele called TCU/ Texas on Thursday.
And before anyone says that I'm wrong on the BC/ NC State game, let me point out that the broadcasters NFF uses in their TV listings for that game are the BC Radio broadcasters. Since neither the NC State or BC Game Notes showed a broadcast team, I relied on ESPN Media Zone for the information, which provides the team of Giardina and Conolly. Since this is the only week Conolly didn't have an ESPN3 assignment, I'd say that it is probably more correct than the other sources.
There's been a change to the SDSU at Wyoming broadcast team. Ari Wolfe and J. J. Stokes will call the game instead of the usual TWC crew of Tompkins and Leewenburg. This means the game is actual a ROOT Production being shown on TWCSN since Wolfe & Stokes have been the main team for MWC on ROOT games this year.
